Your skin is the largest organ of the body, and is your body’s protective barrier. It protects your body from injury, controls body temperature and prevents lose of body fluids. But whilst it is busy protecting our bodies, we are not always the best at protecting it.
Skin cancer
Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in Australia. Before the age of 70, two out of three Australians will have some form of skin cancer. Attributing to Australia having one of the highest rates in the world.
There are three main types of skin cancer, each with their own signs and effects. Each are caused by the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the skin. These abnormal cells are created overexposure to UV radiation occurs. UV radiation is produced by the sun, but can come from other sources such as the lights used in sun beds. This overexposure cause skin cells structure and behavior to change making them abnormal.

How to look after your skin
UV radiation cannot be seen or felt, like the sun’s light or heat, and is around year long. This means we need to protect our skin every day of the year, even if the sun is not shining. But how do we do this? There are five easy SunSmart steps shown in the video below:
